How Our Tanks Are Made

Every tank we sell is manufactured right here in Australia using a proven process called rotational moulding.

HomeOur Process

Every tank we sell is manufactured right here in Australia using a proven process called rotational moulding – the same method used to produce virtually all polyethylene water tanks in the country.

It Starts With the Raw Material

The base material is food-grade, UV-stabilised Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), sourced from Australian production facilities. This type of poly is specifically chosen for its durability, flexibility, and resistance to the harsh Australian sun. It won’t rust, won’t corrode, and is safe for storing drinking water.

The Rotomoulding Process

The polyethylene arrives as a fine powder, which is measured and loaded into a precision-engineered aluminium mould shaped to the exact dimensions of the tank. The mould is then clamped shut and placed into a large gas-fired oven.

Inside the oven, the mould rotates on two axes simultaneously, allowing the heat to liquefy the polyethylene powder so it coats the interior of the mould evenly. This dual rotation is what gives the finished tank a consistent wall thickness with no weak spots or thin sections.

The mould typically spends around 30 to 40 minutes in the oven, with the entire process controlled by computer to ensure precise temperatures. Too little time and the poly won’t fuse properly. Too much and the material degrades. Getting it right is what separates a quality tank from a cheap one.

Cooling and Finishing

Once removed from the oven, the tank goes through a controlled cool-down period of around 20 to 25 minutes. This stage can’t be rushed – it’s what locks in the tank’s structural integrity. After cooling, the mould is opened, the finished tank is removed, and fittings such as inlets, outlets, and overflow points are installed.

The Result

A seamless, single-piece tank with no joins, no welds, and no seams to fail over time. Our 1,000 litre slimline tanks come out of this process at just 700mm in diameter, 2 metres tall, and only 20kg – ready to handle decades of use in Australian conditions.

Every tank is brand new, never recycled or reprocessed, and backed by a manufacturer’s warranty.
